Intro

 

My name is Jean-Sébastien Desnanot. I hold a French passport and I’m a Hong Kong permanent resident. I was born and raised in France. I studied Literature and Linguistics in France (Université Aix-Marseille and Mediterranean Institute of Human Sciences) and in Spain (Universidad de Alicante), with a Romance languages twist (French, Medieval French and Spanish) and with a classical background in Latin and in Classical Greek. I worked as a language teacher and as a teacher trainer, in Europe, Middle East and Asia for 18 years.

I have been teaching the following subjects for secondary international examinations (I/GCSE, GCE/AL, IB, AP, SATII): French Language, Spanish Language, French Literature, and Latin Language / Literature & Classical Culture. I also do tuition in French Language to professionals (DELF/DALF levels) and university levels. Since these were included in my curriculum, I can also teach Classical Greek and Medieval French to anyone interested in new discoveries. I also do translations and public writing, while I have a partner working on edition and Chinese language.

I have been working for institutions as diverse as universities, cultural centres, international management schools, military teaching institutes, international tutoring centres, and in refugee and social NGOs teaching service, both in Europe and Asia, and in extreme different contexts with a huge variety of students (all ages and from academic students to language in contextual management to survival skills for beginners).

After my decade as a teacher and head of the Romance Languages Department of a Hong Kong based international academic group (tutoring, courses and publications centre with special focus on international examinations such as IGCSE/A-Level and IB curricula), I decided to offer direct instruction to students from international schools in Hong Kong and thanks to online courses development I opened the offer to a worldwide audience, while still working for a French cultural centre. Translation and public writing are also part of my work as there is a growing need for linguists with a sharp knowledge of languages, in both conservative and modern contexts, and who can serve as quality translators while automated translating programs and artificial intelligence are still struggling with biased algorithms in the mess that internet has become today.

From grammar to literature, teaching languages and cultures has been a calling for me since my own teenage. I’m looking forward to helping make these subjects clear for you, whatever your goal is, in a human and personalised way.
